Dolly Suite, Op. 56

The suite opens with a dreamy and tranquil Berceuse. Mi-a-ou, the second piece, is full of rhythmical leaps and energy. Along with Le jardin de Dolly, Kitty-valse, Tendresse, and Pas espagnol, the collection is filled with Impressionistic color and delicacy. Engraved in score form with primo above secondo for ease in rehearsal.

(Level 2) The short pieces in Opus 187 are important for development of technique, independence of the hands, and the playing of passagework for the young pianist. These excellent studies may be used for sight-reading and transposition.

This volume includes an excellent composer biography, suggested reading list, and extensive performance notes. It is also an important reference work on use of pedal.

Level: Early Advanced (Level 8) The seven pieces in this volume are excerpted from two ballet suites composed by Dave Brubeck. They represent easier late-intermediate selections from “Seriously Brubeck.” Struttin’ and Doing the Charleston are from the four-movement set Glances. Also included are five selections from points on Jazz: Prelude, Scherzo, Rag, Waltz, and A la Turk. Points on Jazz was commissioned by the American Ballet Theatre and the cover of this incredible collection features Dave at the piano surrounded by the dancers.
